Can you get schistosomiasis from eating nail snails?

The nail snail is an intermediate host for schistosome infection. If there are no nail snails infected with schistosome eggs, eating them will not be infectious, but often where there are schistosomes, there will be nail snails that may be infected with schistosomes. There is no way to determine whether or not a snail is infected or has eggs to prevent development when eating it with the naked eye, so it is recommended to pay attention to the fact that snails should be cooked and the eggs should be fully inactivated when eating them. The main manifestation of schistosomiasis is dermatitis at the invasion site, accompanied by fever, generalized rash, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and pressure pain in the liver area. If repeatedly infected with a large number of schistosomes, without timely treatment, patients may develop ascites, portal hypertension, resulting in rupture of the fundic varices and bleeding and other symptoms of severely impaired liver function as the disease progresses.
