What are the chances of biliary polyps becoming cancerous?

The chances of a biliary polyp becoming cancerous need to be determined from a number of perspectives. If the polyp is multiple, and the polyp diameter is less than one centimeter, and there is no stone combination, the chance of cancer is very small. If the polyp is a single wide base polyp, or the diameter of the polyp is ≥ 1 centimeter, or combined with stones, there is a certain rate of cancer, and the cancer rate is about 10% to 20%. Gallbladder polyp is a protruding or elevated lesion of the gallbladder wall into the gallbladder lumen. Most patients with gallbladder polyps do not have obvious symptoms, and they are usually found during a physical examination ultrasound. Some patients may experience obvious symptoms such as occasional pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. If gallbladder polyps do not have obvious symptoms and do not meet the indications for resection, no special treatment is needed, and regular follow-up in the hospital is sufficient. If obvious symptoms appear or there is a tendency of malignant transformation, it needs to be treated by surgery in time.
