Can appendicitis recur after surgery?

Appendicitis does not usually recur after surgery, but a small percentage of patients may experience abdominal pain.
Surgery for appendicitis usually involves complete removal of the diseased appendix. So generally, there is no recurrence.
A small number of patients may not be able to remove the appendix completely at the time of surgery because of a more severe infection, so the residual part of the appendix. And the decreased resistance after the operation may lead to the recurrence of the residual inflammation, and the patient manifests the symptom of appendicitis abdominal pain.
In addition, after appendectomy, some patients have intestinal adhesions in the abdomen, and mild intestinal adhesions may often present with pain in the right lower abdomen, which patients may mistake for recurrence of appendicitis.
Patients with appendicitis are advised to go to the regular hospital in time to avoid delaying their condition.
