In clinical work, I always hear some middle-aged and elderly patients say that he or she has to go to the hospital regularly for intravenous infusion of some herbs that activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis to unblock blood vessels. They think that hospitalization once or twice a year to unblock the blood vessels will make the blood vessels smooth and reduce the occurrence of heart attack and cerebral infarction. So is it really necessary to have regular infusions to unblock blood vessels? The answer is: it is not necessary. In patients with cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis of the arteries in the corresponding area occurs, which in turn causes stenosis or even occlusion of the blood vessels, triggering ischemia in the corresponding organs and further serious heart attacks and strokes. The substance causing the narrowing of blood vessels is lipid plaque, and generally these patients are combined with hypertension, diabetes and other diseases, which cause damage to the intima of blood vessels and the formation of lipid plaque. Except when the plaque ruptures to form an acute thrombus, intravenous thrombolytic drugs are needed to dissolve the thrombus, other drugs do not have the effect of “melting” the plaque. Some patients are regularly infused with herbal injections such as vasopressin, haemosiderin, shuxin, etc. It is important to note that intravenous infusion itself is a double-edged sword, and long-term intravenous infusion causes more irritation and damage to blood vessels, which can easily cause phlebitis and venous thrombosis. Moreover, injections made from these herbal extracts are more likely to cause allergic reactions, and there are very many clinical incidents of allergy caused by Chinese medicine injections every year. Especially for people with allergies, it is important to be more careful with these medicines. In terms of therapeutic effect, in the acute phase of the disease, some intravenous preparations (non-Chinese medicinal preparations) have the effect of rapidly controlling the symptoms and preventing the development of the disease. However, for the development of chronic diseases, these infusion preparations do not show any advantage. Moreover, any drug has a half-life, and the same is true for injectables, none of which lasts a day, moreover six months or a year. Therefore, once a year infusion does not help the therapeutic effect. For patients with cardiovascular disease, the most important thing is daily management. It is necessary to do proper exercise, low salt and low fat diet, regular work and rest schedule, strengthen weight control, regular monitoring of blood pressure, blood sugar and blood lipids, and under the guidance of doctors, proper oral administration of anti-platelet aggregation, lipid regulating and antihypertensive drugs.
