Proper management of acute lumbar sprains

Whether you slender waist if willow, or tiger waist, in sports or labor if the posture is not appropriate, it is very likely to accidentally flash the waist, severe back pain followed, the taste is really not pleasant! So, “flash waist” is what is going on? In fact, “flashing waist” is a folk saying, also known as “alarm waist”, belongs to the acute lumbar sprain, is a common trauma in life. It is caused by different degrees of tearing and bleeding of the muscles, fascia, sacroiliac joints and ligaments of the lumbar back. The lumbar region is one of the more flexible parts of our crest, second only to the neck in terms of mobility, and can be used for forward flexion, backward extension, lateral bending, rotation and other activities, while also bearing a certain amount of weight, so the soft tissues of the lumbar region are under greater tension, and there are more opportunities for injury. When we are usually careless, in the case of unprepared or inadequate preparation activities suddenly start waist load sports (such as carrying heavy objects) or bending, turning, or in the labor, sports, waist posture improper, improper way of force, too much weight on the waist, often cause acute lumbar sprain. In addition, some congenital deformities, such as small joint protrusion asymmetry or sacral vertebral occlusion, due to the existence of lumbar vertebral activities uncoordinated or lumbosacral ligaments, muscle weakness, more likely to occur lumbar sprain. Usually, acute lumbar sprain is followed immediately by severe pain in the lower back or lumbosacral region (in some cases, the pain is not obvious at the time of injury, but it is obvious after a few hours or after waking up in the morning of the next day), which is persistent, knife-like or tear-like pain, and can be aggravated after activity, and can be reduced after rest but cannot be completely eliminated. The pain can be aggravated by coughing, loud talking, abdominal exertion, and turning over. Sometimes the pain can also radiate to the buttocks, posterior thighs, and anterior medial thigh roots. At the same time, the pain and the reflex spasm of the damaged muscles often cause stiffness of the lower back, limited movement, and the crest tilts to the painful side, so that the patient cannot even move his body, and more hands are used to support the waist to prevent more intense pain from occurring due to the activity, which is very painful. What should I do if I have a “flash back”? Once you flash your back, correct and timely treatment can quickly help you reduce pain, speed up recovery, and avoid or reduce the occurrence of chronic lumbar muscle strain. First of all, proper rest is essential. Must choose to lie down on a hard bed to rest, the waist can be padded with a thin pillow to maintain the physiological curvature of the lumbar convexity, so that the lumbar muscles are relaxed rest state, in order to facilitate the recovery of the damaged parts. Try to avoid movements that may cause pain aggravation. Severe cases require about two weeks of rest. After acute lumbar sprain, apply cold compresses to the lumbar area with towels for 1-2 days to induce small blood vessels to contract and stop bleeding. 4 days later, physical therapy such as hot compresses can be applied to promote the absorption of hematoma. Go to the hospital pain department for examination to clarify the diagnosis, exclude fracture, disc herniation, and receive local injection therapy or myofascial trigger point treatment is the appropriate treatment for acute lumbar sprain, lumbar intervertebral block cross injection therapy, lumbar muscle trigger point acupuncture treatment can produce better results. Usually 1 to 4 times as a course of treatment, some patients are cured by 1 treatment. Anti-inflammatory analgesics, such as ibuprofen and celecoxib, can also be used according to the situation, and narcotic analgesics can be used for severe pain. Local physiotherapy (such as ultrasound, infrared, pulse wave) and manual massage, cupping, etc. can also relieve the symptoms of acute lumbar sprain, while also with the use of dog skin cream, tiger bone cream, etc.. It is worth mentioning that if the condition of “flashing waist” is heavy, or when there is pain, numbness and other symptoms in the calf or foot, you should go to the hospital in time to rule out fractures, disc prolapse, etc. It is not advisable to casually perform massage treatment to avoid aggravating the injury. Tips: How to prevent acute lumbar sprain? Focus on lumbar back muscle exercise, often do “arch bridge” (supine, with the head, shoulders, feet as the fulcrum, chest waist up) or “swallow fly” (prone, with the chest and abdomen as the fulcrum, so that the head, shoulders, lower limbs up) action. Master the correct labor posture. When carrying and lifting heavy objects, try to make the chest and waist straight, bend the hips and knees, get up with lower limb force, and then step after standing firmly. Strengthen labor protection, when doing heavy labor such as carrying, lifting, carrying, lifting, etc., use a lumbar belt to help stabilize the lumbar crest, enhance abdominal pressure, and enhance muscle work efficiency. Pay attention to the combination of work and rest, try to avoid doing heavy physical work that is not in your strength, and avoid working for too long in a bent-over forced position. The elderly should pay attention to calcium supplementation to prevent the occurrence of osteoporosis.
