Esophageal cancer usually recurs several years after surgery

Whether esophageal cancer will recur after surgery and the time of recurrence are closely related to the stage and malignancy of esophageal cancer at the time of surgery. Generally speaking, 1-3 years after esophageal cancer surgery is a high recurrence period. Esophageal cancer is a relatively common malignant tumor of the digestive tract, which has a relatively poor prognosis and the quality of life of patients is not very good. For early stage esophageal cancer, after radical surgery treatment, it can basically achieve the effect of cure, and about 95% of patients will not recur. If the patient’s stage is late, such as metastasis of lymph nodes or distant organs, and the degree of differentiation is low, the prognosis of such patients is worse, and most of them will recur within 1-3 years after surgery, and even some of them will recur in a few months after surgery. Patients with esophageal cancer must follow the doctor’s instructions to have regular follow-ups in order to detect recurrence or metastasis at an early stage and provide timely treatment so as to prolong their survival as much as possible. At the same time, patients should pay attention to a light diet with soft and easily digestible food.
