Injectable spearhead pit viper hemagglutinin is a procoagulant drug that has the ability to improve blood clotting and help stop bleeding. However, this medication does not affect the number of thrombin in the blood and does not carry the risk of causing thrombosis. This medication can be used in gynecology, obstetrics, surgery, internal medicine and other types of bleeding disorders when used to reduce bleeding or to stop bleeding. When abnormal bleeding occurs during an abortion, cesarean section, or during normal labor, this medication may be considered to stop the bleeding. However, it is not usually recommended for abnormal bleeding that occurs in women who are pregnant. The use of this medication generally requires that it be administered under close observation and that the patient’s bleeding and clotting times be monitored during the administration of the medication.
