The principles, methods and precautions for transferring your baby’s milk are all here!

Transferring milk is the process of switching your baby from one type of milk powder to another, either between different brands of milk powder or between different segments of milk powder of the same brand. In life, it can be a very common thing to switch milk for your baby. Some parents also count the rotation of feeding between breast milk and formula as switching, to which an explanation is given: “For breastfed babies, increasing formula should be done for special reasons and is definitely not routinely recommended, so there is no such thing as breast milk for formula. Formula milk is supposed to be used as a supplement to breast milk deficiency. Since it is used as a supplement to the deficiency, it means that the child should be supplemented with as much as he or she needs, without the conversion process. Although it is common to change milk, it is a major problem. A bad transfer can easily lead to indigestion, diarrhea, constipation and other problems in babies. Therefore, parents must understand some principles, methods and precautions before switching their baby to milk, so that they can make a smooth transition and healthy growth. The principle of switching your baby’s milk is not arbitrary. You can’t just switch your baby to this kind of milk powder when you hear that XX milk powder is good today, and then switch to another kind of milk powder when you hear that XXX milk powder is better. One of the most important principles of switching your baby’s milk is that you should not change frequently. The baby’s digestive system is not yet well developed, and the taste and nutrients of various formulas are different, so frequent changes can easily lead to digestive disorders, diarrhea, milk refusal, feeding difficulties, etc., thus affecting their growth and development. Moreover, babies are generally dependent on the taste of the formula they are first exposed to. If your baby has no discomfort and is growing normally, there is no need to change to a different brand of formula. However, there are some cases where you do need to switch your baby, such as: Different brands: Only if your baby has gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, etc., or if your baby simply does not accept a certain brand of formula, you can consider switching your baby’s formula. Note: In this case, there are some other factors that should be ruled out first, so don’t blindly “blame” it on the formula: for example, if your child becomes constipated during formula feeding, you should first consider whether it is related to extra calcium supplementation or whether it is related to the thickening of the formula. After ruling out the above two situations, you can add probiotics and lactulose to your baby. If the effect is still ineffective, then consider changing the formula powder. Different stages of the same brand: Nowadays, many infant formulas are segmented in order to meet the needs of babies of different ages, such as 0-6 months and 7-12 months require a certain amount of nutrition, the different needs of the body development of nutrition, each focus, so the formula needs to be transferred from one stage to another. Note: Don’t be too strict with the timing of formula changes. The formula stages are artificially defined, as long as less than 6 months old infants do not use the second stage of formula; less than one year old do not use the third stage of formula. On the other hand, if a two-year-old toddler has no problem with stage one formula. Don’t be bent to the rules of the business. Feeding is not such a delicate matter, what matters is whether the child can accept it and whether it grows normally. When you understand the principles of switching your baby’s milk, you need to pay attention to the method of switching your baby’s milk in case you really need to do it, not as simple as stopping the previous milk powder and replacing it with a new one! For example, if your baby eats 5 meals of milk powder a day, you can gradually insert the new milk powder during the feeding period of the old milk powder: (as shown in the picture) Date/ton first meal second meal third meal fourth meal fifth meal 1st to 3rd day old old new old old 4th to 6th day old new old old Day 7~9 old new new new new old Day 10~12 new new new new new old Day 13 onwards new new new new new old “old” is the current feeding formula, “new” is the formula you want to switch 2, old and new mixing method: is to replace the formula mixed with Feeding, that is, as far as possible in the original use of milk powder to add new milk powder, the beginning of the amount can be a little less, slowly and appropriately increase the proportion, until completely replaced. For example, if you add 3 spoons of milk powder to your baby each time, then mix 1/3 of the new milk powder with 2/3 of the old milk powder each time; after three days, 2/3 of the new milk powder will be mixed with 1/3 of the old milk powder; and then all of the new milk powder will be replaced for three days. Date/Scoop Day 1~3 new old old; Day 4~6 new new old; Day 7~9 new new new. Precautions during the transfer process During the transfer process, mothers especially need to be patient, the transfer is a continuous process that may take 1~2 weeks, after all, to give the baby an adaptation process! In addition, you should also pay attention to the following 6 aspects: 1. The transfer should be done when the baby is in good health, and it is better to avoid the week before and after the vaccination; 2. It is better not to add new complementary foods while transferring milk, so as not to increase the burden on the baby’s stomach; 3. If your baby is eating hydrolyzed protein milk powder or lactose-free formula, you should be careful when switching milk, and it is best to consult your pediatrician before switching milk; 6. If the change is fast, it may cause diarrhea, so you should reduce or suspend the new formula depending on the situation, and try to switch again after the baby’s diarrhea improves.
