Gastrojejunal tube generally refers to nasojejunal tube. There is no distinction between a nasojejunal tube and a gastric tube. The main differences between the two are the feeding method, whether it is easy to cause reflux, and whether it is easy to cause aspiration pneumonia. Both nasojejunal tube and gastrostomy tube are inserted from the patient’s nasal cavity, and nasojejunal tube can be inserted into the jejunum, while gastrostomy tube can only reach the stomach, and both of them are commonly used in clinic for enteral nutrition. 1. Feeding mode: when feeding through nasojejunal tube, food and other nutrients can reach the jejunum directly through the tube, which is suitable for patients with perforated gastric ulcers and gastric surgeries; food through nasogastric tube first reaches the stomach, and after preliminary digestion of the stomach to form coeliac, and then pushed to the intestines, which is suitable for patients with esophageal pathology leading to difficulty in swallowing. 2. Whether reflux: Nasogastric tube transports food directly to the jejunum, avoiding the reflux of gastric acid, bile, etc. with food to the stomach and the mouth; as the insertion position of nasogastric tube is shallow, there may be the reflux of food to the esophagus and the oral cavity. 3. Whether it causes aspiration pneumonia: due to the shallow insertion position of nasogastric tube, the stomach contents can easily reflux to the throat and cause aspiration pneumonia; while the deeper insertion position of nasojejunal tube is usually not easy to cause aspiration pneumonia. It should be noted that the choice of nasogastric tube and nasojejunal tube should be made under the guidance of a doctor and should not be used without authorization.
