HPV positivity alone is not a serious condition. HPV positivity only proves the presence of HPV infection in the cervix or vagina, but if the TCT test is negative, it does not cause cervical cytological changes. Most HPV tests can be rechecked after six months or a year and will turn negative. If HPV56 is positive and combined with abnormal TCT results, referral for colposcopy is recommended and, depending on the results of the colposcopy, a cervical biopsy is performed if necessary. The pathology results are the gold standard for the diagnosis of cervical lesions. Combining the cervical pathology results determines whether the subsequent treatment should be follow-up observation or further cervical conization treatment.
