What is the sound of water inside the stomach when you shake it?

The sound of water inside the stomach when shaken is the medical term for the sound of vibrancy, which is the sound produced by the impact of gas and liquid in the stomach. Most people can hear the sound of water after eating or drinking a large amount of liquid, which is a physiological phenomenon. However, if the abdominal discomfort is prolonged on an empty stomach or more than 6-8 hours after a meal, and the vibroacoustic sounds can be heard on auscultation, it indicates fluid retention in the stomach and requires vigilance against gastric diseases such as pyloric obstruction, gastric dilatation, and gastric hypersecretion. In the case of subdiaphragmatic abscesses or pneumoperitoneum, vibrovoiced sounds can also be heard, but are less common. When accompanied by hyperactive bowel sounds, intestinal obstruction should be considered, and if the bowel sounds are diminished, paralytic intestinal obstruction or peritonitis should be considered. Sit-to-stand abdominal plain film examination is recommended, and if necessary, gastroscopy and enteroscopy can also be performed to clarify the diagnosis.
