The treatment of cough with the addition and subtraction of Maimendong Tang is based on the diagnosis and treatment of cough caused by the deficiency of lung yin, which is more effective. Mai Men Dong Tang is from “The Essentials of the Golden Chamber”, containing ginseng, licorice, mai men dong and other traditional Chinese medicines, has the effect of lowering the rebellious qi, clearing and nourishing the lungs and stomach, and is used for treating coughs and wheezing caused by lung yin insufficiency, throat irritation, coughing up of phlegm, and heatiness of hands and feet and heart, and also for stomach yin insufficiency, caused by vomiting, frequent burping, and dryness of the throat and thirst. Mai Men Dong Tang Plus Reduction cannot treat all causes of cough, but is only effective for cough caused by lung yin insufficiency, and is often used clinically to treat chronic pharyngolaryngitis, bronchial dilatation, and chronic bronchitis caused by deficiency of lung and stomach yin and upward reversal of qi and fire, as well as gastric yin insufficiency-type chronic atrophic gastritis, and gastric and duodenal ulcers. The side effects of Maimendong Tang are not clear, and how to add or reduce the formula should be determined according to the patient’s condition and under the guidance of the doctor.
