Can I have an ultrasound at 5 weeks of pregnancy?

Ultrasound can be done at 5 weeks of pregnancy, but usually, during the clinic, the patient will be asked if her periods are regular and if they are regular, the pregnancy can be seen at 5 weeks, i.e. 35 days after menopause. However, the presence of a fetal sac does not mean that the embryo is developing normally. The development of the fetal heart and fetal buds usually occurs between 46 and 47 days after menopause, and only after the fetal heart and buds are seen does it prove that the embryo is developing normally. Therefore, during outpatient maternity checkups, it is usually recommended to perform ultrasound examinations on the 50th day of menopause, when most pregnant women can find the pregnancy sac, fetal heart and fetal buds. However, if the pregnancy is not detected after 50 days of menopause, it is possible to wait 1-2 weeks. This happens mostly in pregnant women with delayed or irregular periods. In case of irregular menstruation, it is not recommended to go for ultrasound very early. If there are no special circumstances, no abdominal pain or redness, you can wait, but if there is discomfort, such as vaginal bleeding or lower abdominal cramping, you must go for an ultrasound to exclude ectopic pregnancy.
