The daily salt intake for adults is about 5~6g. According to the 2016 edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Chinese Residents, it is recommended that the daily salt intake for healthy adults should be within 6g, and the daily salt intake for the elderly (over 65 years old) should not exceed 5g. The World Health Organization recommends that the daily salt intake of physically and mentally healthy adults should be no more than 6g per person, and the salt reduction goal of the Healthy China Initiative implemented by the State Council of China is to limit the intake of sodium salt to less than 5g per day. Excessive salt intake can cause high blood pressure, the harm of excessive salt intake is mainly related to the rich sodium contained in salt, too much sodium can raise blood pressure, so reducing salt and limiting sodium intake is very necessary for maintaining good health and preventing and controlling high blood pressure. Particular attention should be paid to the need for hypertensive patients to further reduce their salt intake.
