Is Transformation Zone 3 precancerous?

Cervical transformation zone type 3 nearly reflects the adequacy of colposcopic examination and does not determine whether it is precancerous. Cervical transformation zone can be categorized into three types according to the visibility of the squamocolumnar junction area under colposcopy, reflecting the adequacy of the examination. Transformation zone type 3 refers to the partial visibility or complete invisibility of the squamocolumnar junction area of the transformation zone, which means that no complete transformation zone is found after partial coloration of the cervix under colposcopy. However, cervical transformation zone type 3 may be a manifestation of precancerous cervical lesions, or it may be a physiologic change in women. This is due to the fact that the transformation zone gradually recedes as a woman ages, which can occur in normal menopausal women. Therefore, it is not possible to determine whether this is a precancerous lesion by this result. Further cervical pathology biopsy is needed to determine whether it is precancerous. It is recommended to consult a medical professional if necessary.
