In traditional Chinese medicine, light bamboo leaf is a heat-clearing and fire-removing herb, which is sweet, pungent and light in taste and cold in nature, mainly entering the heart, stomach and small intestine meridians. It has the effects of clearing heat, diarrhea, removing irritation, generating fluid and diuretic. It can be used clinically for the treatment of fever and thirst, or late stage of fever, residual heat not yet cleared, sores on the mouth and tongue due to inflammation of the heart fire, or dripping and astringent pain in the urine when the heart fire moves down to the small intestine. Modern pharmacological studies have confirmed that the leaves have the effects of inhibiting bacterial growth, diuretic, immune system enhancement, delaying aging, and antipyretic effects. Because of its cold nature, it is contraindicated in people with hot flashes due to yin deficiency and fire.
