What are the dietary contraindications for patients with anemia?

  1. Limit fat: moderate fat intake can provide heat for the body; however, excessive fat intake will inhibit the body’s hematopoietic function and affect the digestion and absorption function of anemic patients. Therefore, the daily fat supply should not be more than 70 grams, generally about 50 grams is appropriate. And should try to choose vegetable oils containing unsaturated fatty acids. 2, avoid alkaline food: if the body is alkaline environment, it is not conducive to the reduction and absorption of iron; lack of stomach acid will also affect the free and transformation of iron in food. Therefore, patients with anemia should eat as little alkaline food as possible, such as steamed buns, sorghum noodles, etc. 3, avoid fried food and indigestible things: fried food, on the one hand, contains a large number of nutrients are destroyed; on the other hand, fried food becomes hard, not easy to be digested and absorbed, stay in the intestine, causing changes in intestinal osmotic pressure, resulting in intestinal dysfunction, which in turn aggravates the absorption of intestinal nutrients. Indigestible food is also very easy to cause digestive disorders, resulting in malabsorption of nutrients. 4, avoid drinking tea and coffee: iron deficiency anemia patients in the use of iron therapy or taking other blood medicines, do not drink tea. Because tea has a substance called tannic acid, can be combined with iron to form insoluble iron tannate, preventing the body’s absorption of iron. Likewise, coffee also contains ellagic acid and become a contraindication to iron deficiency anemia. 5, avoid garlic: garlic contains more volatile substances, according to research, garlic itself is irritating, more consumption will inhibit the secretion of gastric juice, affecting the digestion and absorption of food; it will also reduce the number of hemoglobin and red blood cells, which can aggravate anemia. Therefore, patients with iron deficiency anemia should not consume garlic. 6. Drink less milk: Although milk is rich in nutrition such as protein, the content of iron is very low and the content of calcium and phosphorus is high. The calcium and phosphorus in milk will combine with iron in the body to form insoluble iron-containing compounds, making the iron in the body even more inadequate. Therefore, people with iron deficiency anemia should not drink more milk. It is very important to follow the doctor’s advice and pay attention to the above dietary contraindications in order to recover from anemia.
