It is best not to eat alcoholic foods, medications or drink alcohol for 7-10 days before or after taking cephalosporins. Cefoperazone is the most likely to cause disulfiram-like reactions among cephalosporins, and cefradine, cefadroxil and cefixime may also react with alcohol to cause disulfiram-like reactions during use. Cefotaxime or ceftazidime do not react with alcohol in a disulfiram-like manner, so it is not necessary to avoid food or medications with alcohol during the use of these cephalosporins. However, during the period of inflammation requiring anti-infection treatment, exposure to alcohol should be kept to a minimum to avoid prolonging the inflammation, affecting the efficacy of the drugs and even inducing adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal discomfort.
