Swelling time after a broken foot is generally about two weeks, and in special cases the edema may take 4 to 6 weeks or even longer. 1. General: a broken foot is also clinically known as a foot sprain. Most patients with foot sprains have soft tissue injuries around the ankle joint, which may cause congestion and edema around the ankle joint, the dorsum of the foot and other parts of the foot, and most of the patients are treated with acute treatment such as braking, icing, and elevation of the affected limb, as well as hot compresses, physiotherapy and other treatment in the relief period, and the edema will gradually subside and be absorbed in two weeks or so. 2. Special cases: some special cases may take 4~6 weeks or even longer, such as ligament tear or ankle fracture, cartilage damage, etc., after breaking the foot, the acute phase did not carry out the braking, but continue to exercise, causing secondary injury to the patient. For these pathologic conditions of foot sprains, the time that may be needed for the foot swelling to subside will be in the range of 4 to 6 weeks. If a patient presents with a broken foot, early standardized intervention is recommended to minimize the adverse effects of the disease.
