What to do if your baby has a hoarse throat

The phenomenon of hoarse throat in babies is still very common, parents will find that the child’s voice is hoarse when crying or talking, if the baby is accompanied by a cough, coughing like a barking cough, when this phenomenon occurs, to actively deal with. There are still many reasons why babies become hoarse. If a baby has been crying for a long time, excessive shouting can cause acute congestion and edema of the vocal cords and cause hoarseness of the throat. The most common cause of acute respiratory infection is a coughing, barking cough, accompanied by hoarseness and severe respiratory distress, which is considered to be acute laryngitis, a pediatric emergency requiring active treatment. The first step is to give the child plenty of water and to relieve the congestion and edema of the vocal cords by nebulization, which is usually done with pramipexole, or budesonide, two to three times a day. For the etiology of the infection, if the child has a viral infection there is no need for antiviral, if it is confirmed that acute laryngitis is combined with varying degrees of bacterial infection, antibiotics should be used to actively control the infection while clarifying the bacterial infection. Some babies with chronic hoarseness of the throat, after the above-mentioned treatment is not effective, if necessary, the child’s vocal cords should be examined under laryngoscopy, except for congenital problems of vocal cord development and the presence of vocal cord nodules. The baby’s hoarse throat is mostly caused by respiratory infections, so active infection control and nebulizer treatment can mostly achieve satisfactory results.
