The duration of a baby’s cold and cough depends on the child’s physical condition, the severity of the illness, the cause of the illness, etc. It is impossible to generalize and requires a case-by-case analysis. If a child’s cold and cough is caused by a common cold virus infection, it is usually relieved in 5-7 days because of its self-limiting nature. If the cough is caused by a bacterial infection, the child can be treated with antibiotics and cough suppressants as prescribed by the doctor, and the symptoms can usually be relieved in 3-5 days. However, if the child’s symptoms are more serious, especially if the child has a high fever (temperature greater than 39℃) that does not subside, or if the child has an increased respiratory rate or febrile convulsions, parents must pay attention to the child and take him/her to a pediatrician or respiratory clinic in time to improve blood tests and other relevant tests to clarify the specific diagnosis and then provide targeted treatment. During the period of coughing and cold, the child should take rest and drink more water and have a proper diet. In addition, the windows should be opened frequently to keep the air fresh.
