Is it normal for newborns to cough once or twice?

An occasional cough or two is normal for newborns, as their nasal and throat mucosa are very sensitive and delicate, and are easily stimulated by external environmental factors. However, the possibility of illness cannot be ruled out and should be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. Babies need to gradually adapt to the external environment after they are separated from their mothers, and large changes in air temperature, dusty floating objects and irritating smells can irritate the mucous membranes of the newborn’s respiratory tract and cause a cough. One or two coughs triggered by these conditions are normal and can be treated without special treatment, but the room temperature and humidity should be adjusted to a suitable range, with the temperature adjusted to about 22 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity maintained at 50%. If a cough or two is accompanied by frequent spitting up, choking, not eating milk and poor spirits, it indicates an abnormal condition and requires prompt medical attention. The resistance of newborn babies is relatively poor, so in order to strengthen resistance we should focus on strengthening breastfeeding, because sufficient breast milk can provide babies with the unique active immune substances that can enhance immunity.
