Drowning mortality rate

There is a direct correlation between the duration of water inundation and the probability of death. Near-drowning survivors who are treated often have no sequelae. Drowning victims who regain consciousness within 1 hour of treatment have a better prognosis. The shorter the time between rescue from the water and recovery of spontaneous breathing, the better the prognosis. Approximately 20% of drowning victims recover with varying degrees of cerebral dysfunction, central quadriplegia, extrapyramidal syndromes, and peripheral nerve or muscle damage. But there is no single indicator that accurately predicts the prognosis of drowning patients. That is why it is recommended that all drowning patients should be subjected to the most medically assistive behavior possible. Medical personnel can also extend the resuscitation time according to the specific situation, but it is also not recommended to carry out meaningless over-medication.
