Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is a fatal zoonotic disease and critically ill patients often present with extra-pulmonary organ failure, such as circulatory failure and abnormal liver function.
Some statistics show that as of June 10, 2015, 1,231 laboratory-confirmed cases and 451 deaths have been reported globally cumulatively, with a morbidity and mortality rate of nearly 37.0%. South Korea has cumulatively reported 108 confirmed cases and 9 deaths since the first confirmed case was identified on May 20, 2015 until June 10.
