How is Middle East Respiratory Syndrome treated?

For the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, the current treatment is based on symptomatic treatment, respiratory support therapy and preventive measures, there is no clear and effective way to completely cure, treatment is more difficult, there is no effective vaccine.
1. Symptomatic treatment: for severe patients, when there is a clear bacterial infection, vancomycin, ceftazidime and other antimicrobial drugs should be used for treatment.
2. Respiratory support therapy: for patients with severe pneumonia, maintain ventilation and oxygenation through early respiratory support therapy to protect the function of organs.
3. Preventive measures: patients need to wear surgical masks on a daily basis and wash their hands with running water after contacting respiratory secretions. Strict preventive and control measures are taken in the infected area to cut off the transmission pathway, wash hands diligently, avoid contact with patients, and consult a doctor promptly after the end of the trip from the Arabian Peninsula when coughing and fever symptoms are found.
If Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) is diagnosed, it is recommended to seek prompt medical attention to prevent organ failure.
