Type IIIa can be resected with tumor + right half of liver, type IIIb can be resected with bile duct tumor + left half of liver, and type IV can be partially resected with hilar resection and partially resected with hilar + half of liver.
Late-stage cholangiocarcinoma cannot be completely cured because of lymphatic metastasis and distant metastasis. Therefore, it is usually treated by palliative surgery or chemotherapy.
