Ibuprofen is an antipyretic and analgesic drug, mainly used for pain relief, but also for the treatment of fever, and is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It has antipyretic, analgesic as well as anti-inflammatory effects mainly by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. As prostacyclin is related to fever, pain and inflammatory response of the body, ibuprofen also acts through this pathway thus it’s exerts its therapeutic effect. In clinical practice, ibuprofen is mainly used for the relief of mild to moderate pain such as headache, arthralgia, migraine, toothache, muscle pain, neuralgia, and menstrual pain. In addition, ibuprofen can also be used for fever caused by common cold or influenza. This drug is a symptomatic treatment and should not be used for a long time or in large quantities, usually for no more than five days for pain relief and no more than three days for fever relief.
