Chasteberry and Cistanche can be taken in water, but should be used after identification of the symptoms. The efficacy of the drugs is limited because the active ingredients may not be completely analyzed in water. Chasteberry has the effect of nourishing the liver and kidney, brightening the eyes and darkening the hair. It is used in treating yin deficiency of the liver and kidney (deficiency of yin fluid in the liver and kidney), dizziness and tinnitus, lumbar and knee weakness (a feeling of soreness and weakness in the lumbar and knee areas), premature whitening of the beard and hair, darkness and uncertainty of the eyes, internal heat and thirst (internal fever accompanied by symptoms such as excessive eating, drinking and urinating), and tidal fever of the bones (a bout of fever with the feeling that the heat is penetrating from inside the bones to the outside). Cistanchis is sweet, salty and warm in nature. It belongs to the kidney and large intestine meridians. It is effective in tonifying kidney yang, benefiting essence and blood, moistening the intestines and laxatives. It is used for deficiency of kidney yang (lack of yang energy in the kidneys), deficiency of essence and blood, impotence and infertility, lumbar and knee soreness, weakness of sinews and bones, and constipation with dryness of intestines and bowels. Patients are advised to use the medicine under the guidance of a doctor and should not take the medicine by themselves.
