How long does it take to get the results of a cervical biopsy

Results are available in about 7-10 working days for outpatient cervical biopsies and 2-3 working days if hospitalization is chosen for rapid pathology testing. Women who have been sexually active for more than 1 year are recommended to have routine cervical screening every year. Cervical screening includes both HPV testing and TCT cervical fluid-based cytology. If HPV infection or TCT abnormalities are found, further colposcopic cervical biopsy is required and pathology results will be available in 7-10 working days. In case of abnormal cervical tissue biopsy, further cervical loop electrosurgery (LEEP) or conical hysterectomy can be performed to obtain more cervical tissue and the diseased cervical tissue can be removed at the same time as the biopsy. After the results of cervical biopsy are returned, whether or not further surgical treatment is required, it is recommended that those with HPV infection be followed up with vaginal medications such as interferon and Rebieson for standardized anti-HPV treatment to avoid persistent HPV infection causing cervical histopathy.
