Is the newborn’s belly bulging?

Newborns do not all have bulging bellies, as each newborn is different on an individual basis. In general, although a newborn’s intestines are relatively long compared to an adult’s, and the child’s tummy looks slightly more bulging than an adult’s, this is a slight, not particularly noticeable condition. If the child’s mother presses the child’s tummy gently, the tummy is also soft. If the child’s tummy is very bulging and may have bruises on it, it is a case of significantly elevated abdominal pressure, often due to diseases such as intestinal obstruction and congenital megacolon. Because this condition is a pathological surgical disease, it should be promptly treated surgically in general surgery.
