Salvia miltiorrhiza is a blood-activating medicine, which has the effects of activating blood circulation, removing blood stasis, cooling blood and eliminating carbuncles (eliminating carbuncles and swellings by cooling the blood), clearing the heart and removing vexation. It is often used in treating symptoms of blood stasis and obstruction, such as irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea and menstrual occlusion, as well as blood stasis and chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest), cardiac pain, epigastric (abdominal) pain, and paralysis by heat (often manifested as burning, pain, redness and swelling of the joints and muscles) pain. It should not be used together with quassia. Radix Panax Ginseng is a tonic for deficiency, with the effects of clearing heat and generating fluid, tonifying qi and nourishing yin. It is often used in treating deficiency of qi and yin, such as deficiency of heat, lethargy, coughing and wheezing, as well as deficiency of qi and fluid, dry mouth and pharynx, and internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied with symptoms such as excessive eating, drinking and urination). It is not suitable to be used together with Veratrum. It should be noted that the drug should not be used in excess and should be administered under the supervision of a physician.
