What to do if you have a positive TB skin test 3 plus

A positive TB skin test of 3+ is considered strongly positive and relevant tests are needed to clarify whether you are infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculosis skin test, i.e. tuberculin test, is valuable in diagnosing tuberculosis in children, adolescents and young adults. A strong positive reaction to the tuberculin test mostly indicates the presence of tuberculosis in the organism. However, a positive tuberculin test may also be seen with BCG vaccination or previous Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. The gold standard for a definitive diagnosis of TB is the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis on sputum smear or sputum culture, and also relies on imaging tests, among others. Therefore, when the tuberculin test is positive for 3+, chest X-ray or CT, sputum culture and other tests should be performed in time to determine whether it is tuberculosis. If the diagnosis is clear, anti-tuberculosis treatment should be carried out in time under the guidance of specialized physicians. Isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide and ethambutol are commonly used in the treatment of tuberculosis, following the principles of early, appropriate amount, whole course, regularity and combination of treatment.
