Cough identification method is mainly based on the nature of the cough, cough attack time for identification.
1. According to the nature of the cough: it is divided into two kinds: dry cough and wet cough. Dry cough is defined as sputum volume <10ml per day, usually seen in cough variant asthma, gastroesophageal reflux cough. Wet cough is defined as sputum volume >10ml per day, which is commonly seen in bronchiectasis and pneumonia.
2. According to the onset of cough: divided into acute cough, subacute cough and chronic cough. Acute cough refers to cough duration <3 weeks, common in acute trachea, bronchitis, etc.; subacute cough refers to cough duration in 3~8 weeks, common in post-infectious cough, etc.; chronic cough refers to cough duration >8 weeks, common in upper airway cough syndrome, cough variant asthma, etc..
