Chen Pi has the efficacy of regulating qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness by drying dampness and resolving phlegm); the contraindications of Chen Pi are not clear at present.
Chen Pi is pungent, bitter and warm in nature; it belongs to the spleen and lung meridians. It is mainly used in the treatment of vomiting, eructation (hiccups), damp phlegm, cold phlegm cough, chest paralysis (chest tightness and pain). Clinically, Chenpi can be used together with Citrus aurantium and Mucuna pruriens to treat the fullness of the epigastrium (stomach and abdomen) caused by Qi stagnation and Qi reversal, as well as vomiting and nausea.
Patients with qi deficiency, yin deficiency and dry cough, and internal solid heat should take Chen Pi with caution. The adverse reactions and contraindications of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae are not clear.
