There is no such thing as what kind of body type Wu Ling San is suitable for. Wu Ling San belongs to the category of medicines mainly used for treating people with edema caused by Yang not being able to transform Qi (the body’s Qi is blocked), and water-dampness being retained internally (water-dampness stays in the body). Wu Ling San has the efficacy of warming yang and transforming qi (warming the body’s yang qi) and promoting dampness to move water. It is suitable for the water retention syndrome (a type of syndrome manifesting as unsmooth urination, bloating of the abdomen, thirst for water, vomiting after drinking, etc.) caused by yang deficiency of the spleen and kidney (yang qi deficit of the spleen and kidneys), which is not capable of transforming qi to move water (facilitating the movement of qi and thus promoting the movement of water and liquids), and thus causes bladder qi to be out of order (a syndrome manifesting as unsmooth urination, distended abdomen, thirst for water and vomiting after drinking), and symptoms of unfavorable urination and slight heat in the headache. It should be noted that it is contraindicated for people with dampness-heat and the drug should not be taken regularly; it is not suitable for people with thirst and dysuria (unsmooth urination) who are suffering from deficiency of yin and fluid. Wu Ling San should only be used after the diagnosis by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be taken on its own to avoid adverse effects.
