How many years can you live after gastric cancer surgery?

The life expectancy of postoperative gastric cancer patients is closely related to the early and late stage of the disease and general status, which cannot be generalized. If early stage gastric cancer can be detected in time, actively treated with surgery and given comprehensive treatment after surgery, the prognosis is usually good, and the 5-year survival rate of stage I patients is about 90%; however, early stage gastric cancer has fewer clinical symptoms and is easily confused with ulcers, so it is usually difficult to be detected early. Stage IV gastric cancer is difficult to treat surgically, and the 5-year survival rate is extremely low, and the expected survival period is often less than 1 year. For people with long-term recurrent gastric discomfort, progressive wasting, uncorrectable anemia and long-term positive fecal occult blood, they should be alerted to gastric cancer and undergo gastroscopy if necessary for early treatment to improve their prognosis.
