There are two types of ureterograms, an intravenous pyeloureterogram, which costs about$900, and a retrograde ureteral cannulaogram, which costs about$800. Retrograde ureteral cannulation requires cystoscopic intubation followed by radiology, where a contrast agent is pushed through the ureteral cannula to effectively evaluate the ureter for strictures, stones and the possibility of tumors. Intravenous pyeloureterography involves the injection of a contrast medium into a vein to visualize the secretory function of the kidneys, as well as whether the ureter is visualized, and whether and to what extent the ureter is narrowed.
