How long to abstain from sex after kidney stone surgery

How long you need to abstain from sex after kidney stone surgery depends on the patient’s surgical method, recovery and other factors, and cannot be generalized. Kidney stones are a common clinical disease of the urinary system. If the stone is more than 2cm, it usually needs to be treated with surgery, which includes minimally invasive surgery and open surgery. Minimally invasive surgery includes percutaneous nephrolithotomy and ureteroscopic lithotripsy. If ureteroscopic lithotripsy is performed, the patient can usually be discharged from the hospital in 1-2 days after the surgery and can have intercourse after discharge. If percutaneous nephrolithotripsy is performed, it is more traumatic, with incisions on the kidneys and skin, and the patient usually rests for 1 month before having intercourse. If the patient chooses open surgery, the trauma is even greater and the time to have sex needs to be extended, usually about 2 months. However, the type of surgery depends on the patient’s recovery, so there are individual differences in the duration of abstinence. Patients with kidney stones are advised to drink more water and urinate more often after surgery to prevent the recurrence of kidney stones.
