Is it okay to wear an IUD until you are old and not remove it?

The intrauterine device cannot remain in place until old age. It is recommended that it be removed as soon as possible after menopause or within one year of menopause, especially for metal birth control devices. Because the uterus shrinks after menopause, the size of the ring remains the same, so there is a risk of adhesions between the two sides of the ring and the uterine wall, or even embedding into the myometrium, or in severe cases, embedding out of the myometrium and into the bladder or peripheral organs such as the rectum and colon. This is a dangerous situation and may require major hysteroscopic surgery to remove the IUD. Therefore, in the case of postmenopause or perimenopause, or menstrual disorders, it is best to go to a regular hospital to remove the IUD as soon as possible.
