What medicine for a three-month-old baby with fever

For a 3-month-old baby with a fever, there is only one fever-reducing medicine available, called acetaminophen, which is available as an oral suspension or as a suppository for anal plugs. Acetaminophen suspension is better tasting, easy to take and suitable for 3-month-old babies. The suppositories can be difficult for parents of 3-month-old babies because the child is small and the anal opening is narrow, making it difficult to insert into the anus. It is not recommended to use suppositories especially if the child has diarrhea, because repeated stimulation of the anus with suppositories can lead to irritation of the intestinal mucosa, increased intestinal peristalsis, and increased diarrhea. If the child’s temperature does not drop well after using the antipyretic, it can be used once more at an interval of 4-6 hours, up to 4 times in 24 hours, and up to 3 days in a row. Since the immune system of a 3-month-old child is immature and immunity is very low, it is best to bring the child to the hospital for routine checkups to clarify the type, degree and location of infection and to select anti-infective drugs to clear the inflammation from the body in order to cure the disease.
