Snow boots are not “good boots” for winter for people with diabetes

Since the beginning of winter, the temperature has plummeted, and many pedestrians on the road have been wearing thick snow boots for travel. Is snow boots, known as a winter tool, also suitable for people with diabetes? Here we need to remind you: snow boots are indeed very warm, but they are not very suitable for diabetic patients. Diabetics have high requirements for shoes, and choosing the right shoes can reduce the burden on the feet to a certain extent and prevent diabetic foot from arising. Since snow boots have a thick layer of warmth inside, resulting in a more bulky shoe, most snow boots are flat-soled. Flat-soled shoes do not support the arch well, and if you walk in snow boots for a long time, it is easy to cause collapse and deformation of the arch, which is manifested by pain and soreness in the feet after walking. Snow boots are generally loose, unlike leather shoes that follow the foot, after the wool layer at the bottom of the shoe is worn flat, when walking feet slide back and forth in the boots, easy to feel tired. The feet of diabetics are more fragile, so snow boots are not suitable for this type of people. So, what kind of shoes are suitable for diabetic patients to wear in winter? It is recommended that patients should choose shoes that are laced or have tear-off buckles, etc. that can be adjusted for fat and thin, so that the shoes can adapt to the feet as much as possible. As women have the habit of wearing boots in winter, female diabetics should pay attention, in order to protect themselves, do not choose shoes with too high waist, which can rub the ankle and cause breakage. Diabetic foot is especially prone to develop in cold and wet environments. The cold winter weather and vasoconstriction can also lead to aggravation of the original lesion. In addition to good control of blood sugar, sugar lovers in winter, in particular, should also pay attention to the following points: First, diabetic foot soak should first ensure that the water temperature at about 37-40 degrees. Each foot soak time in about 15 minutes is most appropriate. In addition, people with dry feet can apply skin care products to prevent dry and cracked skin. Finally, winter diabetics should wear cotton or wool socks to keep warm. Hot water bags and electric blankets should also be used with caution. The sensory nerves of the lower extremities of diabetic patients are often numb, so when using hot water bags, electric blankets, etc. to warm the lower extremities or feet, avoid burning the skin at too high a temperature. The cold winter season belongs to the high incidence of diabetic foot, I hope to bring you some tips here, so that sugar lovers can spend a healthy and warm winter! Finally, we would like to tell you the good news that the endocrinology department of the 454th PLA Hospital (Nanjing Military Diabetic Foot Center) has officially opened a “case and discussion channel”! In order to help preserve the limbs of diabetic patients and reduce medical risks, the Endocrinology Department of PLA No. 454 Hospital has opened a case discussion and consultation channel with two senior podiatry team leaders to provide quality services for patients who come to consult. The opening of this public service channel allows ordinary patients to enjoy the opportunity to communicate with doctors directly and get professional assessment of their conditions in time, so as to prevent their blind judgment from causing deterioration of their conditions. At that time, all colleagues are also welcome to come to communicate and exchange ideas.
