Color of purulent discharge

Generally, the color of purulent discharge can also be different depending on the infecting bacteria. For example, after Staphylococcus aureus infection, the patient may have yellow mucous-like pus, but if the patient is infected with streptococcus, some patients may show a light red thin pus. In the case of E. coli type infection, the patient can show a dark red discharge with a special fecal odor. The secretion should be cultured and drug-sensitivity tested, and appropriate antibiotics should be given intravenously according to the results of the drug-sensitivity test. The infected area should be treated, such as epidermal incision infection or wound infection, the wound should be cleared, disinfected, and if necessary, the incision should be disinfected with hydrogen peroxide, followed by wiping with iodophor and then covered with sterile dressing. At the same time, patients should pay attention to rest and avoid water exposure of the incision.
