Anemia can cause numbness in the hands and feet. Deficiency of folic acid or and vitamin B12 in the body due to various reasons causes megaloblastic anemia due to impaired DNA synthesis in red blood cells. Megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency can produce symptoms of neurological damage. It can manifest as weakness of the limbs, symmetrical numbness of the hands and feet, deep sensory disturbances, unstable walking like stepping on cotton, especially difficulty in moving at night, and some patients can develop psychiatric symptoms.
