What’s the smell and color of amniotic fluid?

Amniotic fluid is a type of fetal appendage that provides the necessary space for fetal growth and development as well as activity. Amniotic fluid has no taste and is a clear, colorless liquid. Under normal circumstances, if there is a rupture of the fetal membranes, amniotic fluid comes out as a clear liquid, often mixed with a small amount of fetal fat, but fetal fat does not affect the taste of amniotic fluid, in addition to the fact that sometimes amniotic fluid can be contaminated, so it will be manifested in other flavors. For example, if vaginal secretions are mixed with the amniotic fluid, it will have a certain fishy odor. If there is an infection in the uterine cavity, the amniotic fluid is contaminated and may have a foul odor, and the color is no longer clear, but may be yellowish-green and sticky. In short, under normal circumstances, amniotic fluid should be colorless and tasteless. If you find that the amniotic fluid has an abnormal taste and color, you should inform your doctor and take prompt action.
