There is no clear contraindication for taking Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus and Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng together, but Codonopsis pilosula and Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng should not be used with Veratrum, and Astragalus membranaceus is contraindicated for those who have solid symptoms of the epidermis and those who have deficiency of Yin and Yang. Radix Codonopsis pilosula has the effects of strengthening the spleen and lungs, nourishing blood and promoting the production of body fluid; Radix Astragali has the effects of replenishing qi and elevating yang, fixing the surface and stopping sweating (stopping sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle), inducing diuresis to reduce swelling and promoting the production of body fluid and promoting the production of blood; Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng has the effects of replenishing qi and nourishing yin and promoting the production of body fluid by clearing heat.
1. Radix Codonopsis pilosula is used in treating deficiency of spleen and lung qi, poor appetite and tiredness, cough and asthma, deficiency of qi and blood, yellowish color, palpitation, shortness of breath, thirst, internal heat and thirst (internal heat accompanied with symptoms such as eating, drinking and urinating).
