Will the macula of the eye heal on its own?

Whether or not macular degeneration in the eye can heal on its own depends on the type of macular degeneration. Less severe forms of central plasma retinal chorioretinopathy have the potential to heal on their own, but other types of macular degeneration have virtually no chance of healing on their own.
Macular degeneration can be caused by genetics, age, inflammation, and other factors. Among them, central plasma retinochoroidopathy occurs in young people, and it is possible to recover from the disease without medication if the disease is mild, with lifestyle adjustments and regular follow-up examinations.
However, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion, which occur in middle-aged and old people, cause macular edema and neovascularization of the macular area, and are generally difficult to be cured on their own.
Macular degeneration has the risk of causing blindness, if patients are found to have macular degeneration, they should consult an ophthalmologist for active treatment.
