Symptoms of otitis externa

Otitis externa is an inflammation of the external auditory canal, usually caused by a local bacterial infection. The common clinical manifestations are as follows: Earache: Earache is the main clinical manifestation of otitis externa, especially at night when severe pain is likely to occur. Ear leakage, conductive hearing loss, intense itching in the external auditory canal, and red swelling of the soft tissues around the ear occur. Usually, otitis externa is divided into two types of otitis externa, acute diffuse otitis externa and chronic otitis externa, and their clinical manifestations are different. In the early stages of acute diffuse otitis externa, there will be swelling and pain in the ear, restlessness, and thin discharge from the external auditory canal. Patients with chronic otitis externa will experience itching of the ear. In severe otitis externa, also called malignant otitis externa, complications such as facial nerve palsy, skull base osteomyelitis, epidural abscess, venous sinus thrombosis, and other cranial nerve paralysis may occur. Once the organism has symptoms of otitis externa, it should be treated promptly with surgery or medication. If otitis externa is in the early stage, it can be treated with medication, while in the late stage, it needs to be treated with surgery such as incision and drainage. At the same time, we should pay more attention to the diet, avoid spicy stimulation, and actively exercise to improve the immunity.
