What is the difference between a low fistula and a high fistula?

Low level fistula and high level fistula can be distinguished by anatomical site, drainage fluid character, severity and so on.
1. Anatomical site: the anatomical site is the main point of differentiation between low-level fistula and high-level fistula. Take anal fistula as an example, if the fistula is located in the deeper part of the internal anal sphincter, it is high anal fistula; if the fistula is located in the deeper part of the internal anal sphincter, it is low anal fistula.
2. Drainage fluid properties: low fistula and high fistula drainage fluid properties are also very different. Take intestinal fistula for example, high intestinal fistula drainage fluid contains a large number of irritating digestive fluids, peritoneal irritation symptoms are more significant; low intestinal fistula drainage fluid in the metabolic waste and less irritating substances, so the irritation symptoms are relatively mild.
3. severity: low fistula and high fistula severity of the disease there is also a significant difference. Take intestinal fistula as an example, high intestinal fistula can lead to a large loss of digestive fluids, serious disorders of water electrolyte acid-base balance, the risk is relatively high; and low intestinal fistula risk is relatively low.
Suspected fistula patients, should go to the regular medical institutions in a timely manner, and actively cooperate with the relevant diagnosis and treatment, so as to avoid delaying the condition.
