What to do if your ears are clogged with earwax

Earwax blockage refers to cerumen impaction, which is usually removed by direct removal method, cerumen hook removal method, external ear canal flushing method and suction method.
1. Direct removal method: For small or flaky cerumen that is movable, soft and not highly adherent to the ear wall, it can usually be removed directly with sterile tweezers.
2. Cerumen hook removal method: If the cerumen is slightly hard, it can be removed with a cerumen hook.
3. External ear canal flushing method: for patients with poor mobility and hard cerumen, it is necessary to soak the cerumen with 5% sodium bicarbonate ear drops to soften the cerumen before flushing it out with warm saline.
4. Suction method: It is generally applicable to patients with ineffective flushing method in the deeper part of the external auditory canal, and the earwax that adheres to the wall of the ear canal or the surface of the tympanic membrane in the form of crumbs or particles can be suctioned out by this method.
It is recommended that patients whose ears are blocked by earwax go to the hospital and cooperate with the doctor for active treatment.
