According to the Expert Consensus on the Treatment of Recurrent Nasopharyngeal Cancer (2018), the recurrence rate of nasopharyngeal cancer is 5% to 10%. Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor originating from mucosal epithelial cells in the nasopharynx, which is mainly manifested by bloody nasal discharge, tinnitus, hearing loss, and headache. Nasopharyngeal cancer is sensitive to radiotherapy and adjacent to important tissue structures such as brainstem, temporal lobe, spinal cord, optic nerve, etc., which are inoperable, so radiotherapy is the standard treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer. After receiving radical radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer, tumor recurrence is one of the main reasons for treatment failure. The recurrence rate of nasopharyngeal cancer with conventional radiotherapy is 20% to 40%. With the application of three-dimensional conformal intensity-modulated radiation therapy technology, the local recurrence rate decreases to 10%-15%. Nasopharyngeal cancer patients should follow the doctor’s prescription, follow up on time, and consult the doctor in time when discomfort occurs.
